SUBJECT: New Training Center Established

On Wednesday March 4, 2020 construction crews with Affordable Drill Tower company completed construction of Campbellsville Fire Rescue Multipurpose Drill Tower. This training tower was part of a training facilities grant sponsored by the Kentucky Fire Commission. The total 100% grant was for $89,000.00.

This drill tower will allow our crews to have hands on training ground ladders, aerial ladders, victim rescue, fire hose advancement, fire department connections, standpipe valves, confined space and technical rope rescue training. This training tower will also qualify for Insurance Office Credit (ISO) to help Campbellsville lower its ISO class rating.

This tower is just over 40’ tall, 3 floors, 5 levels and is made of high-strength carbon steel. It also features a vertical ladder with safety cage, steel toe boards to keep hose lines and tools from falling off,

3 balcony’s/instructor platforms, window bail out prop, outriggers to increase the foot print of the tower with additional training space, removable floor to practice through-the-floor vertical rescue situations, and commercial/residential ventilation simulator.

The training tower was placed on new training center grounds located at 130 Trace Creek Drive in Campbellsville. The new training center location is located on around 1.5 acres of land and will allow for future expansion of training buildings and props to serve all emergency services and public works. This project was broken down into three phases. Phase I was securing the drill tower, drive way, parking lot, and perimeter fencing. Phases II-III may be completed in the next 2-4 years depending on if awarded additional grant funding.

The entire Fire-Rescue training center project has been a coordinated effort with multiple agencies. Campbellsville Fire-Rescue would like to thank the Kentucky Fire Commission for the support and grant award to build the drill tower. We would also like to thank the City of Campbellsville City Council, City of Campbellsville staff including Mayor Brenda Allen, City Clerk Cary Noe and City Engineer Blake Durrett for their planning and support of this project. Taylor County Judge Executive Barry Smith and the Taylor County Road Department support were critical for this project for the ground work preparation for the concrete training pad and the driveway/parking lot.

This training tower will serve the future and present volunteer and career firefighters that serve our area. We appreciate all the hard work and dedication of the Campbellsville-Taylor County Firefighters.
